SoGEA Broadband

What is SoGEA?

SoGEA stands for Single order Generic Ethernet Access. SoGEA provides one singular connection, without the requirement of a traditional telephone line installation. Now Network Connect can provide organisations with a broadband data service within a single order.

SoGEA in more detail.

SoGEA delivers the same performance and broadband speeds as Fibre To The Cabinet, - FTTC. It uses the same infrastructure and has the same geographic availability, future-proofing connectivity as the UK moves to an all-IP network.

Why do you need SoGEA? In 2015, BT Openreach announced its intention to switch off the existing PSTN and ISDN networks completely, migrating legacy analogue networks to more efficient digital equivalents. In December 2025 every PSTN and ISDN line and associated services in the UK will cease to exist.

The 2025 deadline is fast approaching and it would be a mistake to wait until nearer the time, the migration of services is happening today and will pick up pace from June 2021 when notice is served on more than a hundred telephone exchanges across the country. Network Connect SoGEA provides an effective solution today by using the existing fibre/copper network, making it available to more than 90% of premises across the UK.

Important note: You will need a Voice over Internet Protocol, - VoIP, voice product such as Splicecom hosted telephony platform if you wish to continue to make and receive voice calls and use your existing telephone number. It is essential that the porting of any existing telephone numbers is completed before the service is switched to SoGEA, or numbers can be irretrievably lost.

Benefits of Network Connect SoGEA:

Cut Costs

The cost of having a separate telephone line and a separate broadband is more expensive than SoGEA. Landline rental costs will be eradicated reducing your costs considerably.

Increased reliability

SoGEA is using an established network without the addition of a telephone line so the chance of interference or an unstable connection is reduced.

Quicker installation

SoGEA requires a single connection, making it quicker to install and minimising disruption to your organisation.

Great for homeworking

Many organisations in the UK are shifting towards a hybrid workforce, because of the Covid-19 pandemic, so having good connectivity at home has become essential for many. SoGEA is quicker to install, easier to manage and works well with UCaaS and hosted telephony products.

Future-proof connectivity

The PSTN network will be switched off by the end of 2025, and many PSTN exchanges are already under notice of switch off as the UK prepares for the move to full digital. SoGEA enables you to have a broadband or ethernet connection agnostic of the PSTN network, future-proofing your organisations connectivity.
